    Governor Candidate Qualifications

Dear Lieutenant Governors, Presidents, and Past Presidents:

Indiana North District Optimist for Youth changed our by-laws last year to enable experienced, past or current presidents to become Governor of our District.  Previous rules that permitted only current or past Lieutenant Governors to be eligible were changed as required by the International due to the increasing difficulty of finding replacement Governors in some states.

This change permits you or another member of your club with presidential experience to run for office. Please respond to this e-mail at melvivjackson@aol.com  or call me at 765-642-5438 if interested and to learn more about the position.

If you prefer, you may also contact Past Governor Tom Stone (tstonemx5@comcast.net, 765-620-3099), Current Governor Julie Robison (rbsmurf@aol.com, 765-574-264-3145), or Governor Elect Todd McMillin (Todd608@hotmail.com, 608-921-9978), all who are on the Candidate Qualifications Committee.

I am the past Governor of the Indiana North District.  It was a great pleasure to serve as the Governor of our Great District. We need qualified candidates who are great leaders.  I am the Chair of the Candidate Qualifications Committee this year. Optimist International provides training and Governor Elect Todd McMillin would mentor the 2017-18 candidate.  It is a three year commitment (first year as governor-elect learning the job, second year doing it and mentoring the next governor, and third year giving out awards in the second quarter meeting as well as continuing to assist the governor).

    Yours in On-Fire Optimism,

    Past Governor Mel Jackson

    New Club Building

Our District has not been successful in building a new Optimist Club in several years. This is the year to change that! We have teams working in this direction. The following areas are currently being looked at: Kokomo, Columbia City and North Manchester. If you have friends or family that live or work in these areas, let me know. We would love for them to be included in the chartering of these new clubs! Call me if you want to be a Builder of Excellence and help build an Optimist Club! We can use everyone’s help!!!

    Membership Update

I think we are all happy to have the brunt of winter behind us and are counting down the days until spring! This time of year brings out the desire to get motivated and get things done. So why not build our membership! Just a couple of weeks ago, the Indiana North District was ranked 5th out of the 49 districts. Due to some recent deletes in membership, we have slipped into 8th position. I am very optimistic that we will spread our “Magic” with others and reclaim that 5th (or higher) slot! It won’t happen unless we all work together!

Look who’s leading the pack in membership within the INDN District:

    Place Club Members
    1st Hagerstown +13
    2nd New Castle Breakfast +8
    3rd Warsaw Breakfast +5
    3rd Portland Breakfast +5
    3rd Hammond +5
    4th Warsaw Noon +4
    5th Indianapolis Eastside +2
    5th  Zionsville +2
    5th Mt Vernon +2
    6th Rochester +1

    100 by 100

OI Logo 100-by-100100 by 100 – Help Optimist International achieve their goal of growing the organization to 100,000 members by the time it turns 100, in 2019! Indiana North District wants to help do their part, so we are offering an incentive program. For each new member added beginning Oct 1, 2015 thru Sept 30, 2016, the sponsoring Optimist member’s name will be put into a drawing for an IPAD Mini. Want to increase your odds of winning it – Sponsor More New Members!

    Growth Surge

The Indiana North District is following the request from O.I. for a Growth Surge, to happen during our year. Please make a conscious effort to grow your club. Now would be a great time to schedule a friendly competition between members of your club. Create teams evenly with members that come to club on a regular basis and those members that you rarely see. Come up with a creative theme to base the teams around, as in sports teams (basketball/football). Have members sit with their team during the club meeting and receive points for attendance & bringing guests to club. At the end of the competition, award small prizes to the winning team. You may just happen to see some of those long lost faces, back at your club meetings.

    New Optimist Member Incentive

    OI Logo 100-by-100

Optimist International Certified Trainer Esthermarie Hillman introduced us to this easy way to find members like you and I, those wanting to make a difference in your community. Who is going to try this method to add members to your club? Let me know, as I will come and assist at your event/table.

Until every child in every community is served, my/our job is not done. Let’s make a point to work on this, before summer vacations consume our time and energy. INDN will do our part to help Optimist International’s Growth Surge to reach 100,000 Members by the 100th O.I. Convention in 2019!
